The Green Business Award goes to ...
On November 25th 2011, The annual Business Awards for Excellence were hosted by the Isle of Wight’s Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry. One of SMR Ltd’s customers, HJ Bennett Ltd who run the Island’s largest aggregate recycling plant were presented with The Green Business Award for the environmental/sustainable impact that they have had on the Island. To achieve this HJ Bennett use the SMR Proprietary Binder in their recycling process to enable them to re-use and recycle trench arisings from the utility companies, and as-dug road arisings from the local council which they turn into a Hydraulically Bound Material that can be used in place of quarried aggregate.

Exeter City Council
Exeter City Council approached SMR Ltd in regard to the repair of their cycle track located off Sannerville Way, Exminster. The cycle track is primarily used
as a cycling and walking route for a local school and is occasionally used by
cars and tractors.
Due to the trafficking and inclement weather, subsidence and rutting had
occurred on the cycle track. To deal with the rutting, quarried stone was
imported to site and used to fill in the ruts and then level the subsiding ground.
However, this was at best a temporary solution, as after the quarried stone
was laid it was not long before additional trafficking and inclement weather
caused more rutting and subsidence.
It became clear that a more permanent and environmentally friendly solution
was required to remedy this problem and it was therefore decided that the
cycle track would be stabilised using the SMR proprietary binder in-situ. Click here to find out more (690kb PDF)
SMR to provide on site Prima Testing
SMR have invested in a Prima 100 Lightweight deflectometer to offer an on-site testing service on customer SMR reinstatements. Newly promoted Technical Director, Seb Love, recently attended a course at Loughborough University in the use and theory behind the Prima 100 instrument to ensure that SMR can provide fully qualified trained personnel, with experience of both the product being tested and the instrument testing the product. This depth of knowledge is unique to SMR and as part of a quality control system, can help customers quickly identify and react to any issues in the use of SMR, saving thousands of pounds in potential defect costs due to poor compaction.
